Below is a list of kennel clubs world wide. Here are a few points of interest you should be aware of before purchasing a dog from any breeder claiming to be affiliated with any kennel club world wide.

Some things to keep in mind when searching a registry for a particular breed of dog

• Encouragement of health testing (beyond just a short veterinary checkup), screening for genetic defects & DNA profiling for breeding stock
• Different levels of registrations available, such as limited registrations.
• That every breed have a standard, a “parent” breed club who sets that standard, and that the club consists of more than a couple of breeders.
• That breeders be encouraged to prove their dogs meets their standards in the conformation or trial ring.
• That the kennel club has or sponsors shows and trial where the dog’s qualities can be proven, for all breeds.
• That breeders are encouraged to carefully plan breedings, sell pups to only carefully checked and appropriate homes, and participate in rescuing at least dogs of their own breeding if it turns out the sale or adoption of the pup didn’t work out as expected.
• Has a code of ethics, or encourages breeders to join breed clubs that have a code of ethics.
• Emphasizes improving the breeds, not just selling dogs.
• The atmosphere of the club or registry is about the welfare and enjoyment of dogs, not classified ads and money.

Things to avoid when searching for a registry for a particular breed of dog:

• Recognizing mixed breeds for breeding purposes (such as Cockapoo). Anything with a ‘combo’ or ‘mixed’ name is NOT a purebred dog of any sort no matter what anyone tries to tell you.
• Been founded around a single new breed that someone has recently "created", often not even set in breed type or has vague standards - that can mean the breed isn't "breeding true".
• No competitions to prove the dogs' qualities (or links to competition pages that go nowhere and the site is not very new).
• No suggestion or education about OFA type health testing/screening, and none or very few of the breeders seem to know what it is.
• No limited registrations available.
• Advertising sections for breeders, and most ads don't mention health clearances beyond a vet check if at all.
• Listing private breeders as "breed clubs", or breed clubs are composed of a very small group of just a few breeders
• Breed standards missing or have very, very broad descriptions - can cover up the fact that the dogs are really mutts. Multiple breed standards recognized by single registry, for a single breed, can cover up lots of problems too.
• Clubs that have same or similar initials to more reputable clubs (to confuse people who haven't done their homework). UKC can be United Kennel Club or Universal Kennel Club, CKC can be Canadian Kennel Club or Continental Kennel Club, FIC can easily be confused with FCI, etc....
• Supported mainly by a pet store, pet store chain, or other special interest groups who's interest may not be the welfare of dogs, but the welfare of their wallets.
• Clubs and registries who have emphasis on what the registration certificate looks like ("includes a gold seal for only $5 more").

With 300,000 registrations annually, the United Kennel Club is the world’s largest performance dog registry and second oldest all-breed registry in the United States.
Founded in 1898, the UKC has supported the "Total Dog" philosophy through its events and programs for over a century. As a departure from registries that place emphasis on a dog’s looks, UKC events are designed for dogs that look and perform equally well.

The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is the primary registry body for purebred dogs in Canada and currently recognizes 174 breeds.
As a non-profit organization, the CKC is dedicated to encouraging, guiding, and advancing the interests of purebred dogs and their responsible owners and breeders in Canada and promoting the knowledge and understanding of the benefits which dogs can bring to Canadian society.

The Kennel Club UK is the equivalent to the USA’s AKC. It is the breed standard for showing and breeding and the keeper of the stud book in the UK.

The Scottish Kennel Club is the leading canine authority in Scotland, existing for the main purpose of promoting and encouraging the improvement and well being of dogs.

The Kennel Club of Greece. This site can be viewed in English and Greek. They hold shows internationally and you can read more on them by clicking the icon.

The Kennel Club of Mexico. This is the equivalent to the AKC here in the USA.
